FAQs for Students

Please contact us at info@themte.co.uk if you have any further questions.

What lessons do you offer?

We offer a range of vocal, instrumental and theory lessons. Take a look at our 'Meet the Teachers' page, to see their specialisms.

Who are your teachers?

Our teachers are passionate music students and recent graduates who are actively developing their craft through our exchange programme. Take a look at our 'Meet the Teachers' page, to see their profiles.

All our teachers are DBS checked.

How does scheduling and payment work?

All scheduling is between the student (or parent!), and the teacher. Lessons are booked through teacher's personal TidyCal accounts.

Payment is made at the time of booking. Get in touch for lesson fees.

How do lessons work at the MTE?

Send us an enquiry via our 'Join as a Student' page.

We will get in touch to match you with one of our fabulous teachers, and you can chat with them about mutual availability. Lessons take place either at your home, or online.

FAQs for Graduates

Please contact us at info@themte.co.uk if you have any further questions.

How does the exchange work?

Send us an application via our 'Apply as a Teacher' page. We will be in touch to chat further about your involvement with the MTE.

For every lesson you teach, you earn credits. These credits go toward your own professional vocal lessons (or a supporting discipline), supporting your development while you work.

Do I get paid as well?

Yes! At the MTE, our teachers are self-employed and send us monthly invoices for lessons taught. As we are self-funded, we do have to uphold a margin between income and outgoings - this is how we provide you with training! Read our 'About Us' page for more info.

I already teach privately - can I still apply?

Yes! We encourage student/grad teachers with established client lists to apply. You are welcome to keep previous students private with you, but your credits and therefore training allowance will increase if you teach them through the Music Training Exchange.

Do I need a degree?

No! We’re looking for strong musicianship, a passion for teaching, and the ability to work with children. A degree isn’t essential, but experience and reliability are.

What support do I get?

You’ll have access to:

 - Mentoring: EG learning how to prepare and enter students for exams

 - Professional training: EG vocal lessons, CV/Spotlight support

 - A community of like-minded teachers

We also handle admin such as payments, scheduling tools, and safeguarding resources.
